The initial opportunity will be spearheaded by an effort to raise funds for the rental of one shipping container of medical supplies coordinated with a medical supplies vendor based in China. The cost will be approximately $100,000 USD to rent the container and ship it to the Port of Bosaso, Somalia. Also this will include the medical supplies and transformers for changing to the local electric system. From there, the container will be shipped by truck to Gol-Nugaal Maternity hospital in Garowe, Somalia. GHA’s team will be there to receive the supplies, assist with setup and train local hospital staff on utilizing the equipment. Furthermore, GHA anticipates eventually renting more, and in the future purchasing, shipping containers to develop further programs and services on the ground in Somalia, as well as eventually other African nations. Supplies and training are the two core program expenses that GHA will incur as part of executing the organizational mission. Once the container drops the supplies in Somalia it will return to the United States and be owned by GHA. The idea is to create a consistent flow of supplies to Africa, meanwhile using those supplies in conjunction with training on the ground from the organization’s representatives.
